What is a citizen journalist?
A citizen journalist is anyone in the public who plays an active role in collecting, reporting and analyzing news. citizen journalism in often confused with civic journalism.

What was one of the first examples of news being generated by ‘ordinary people’?
one of the first examples of news being gererated by ordinary people was in 2009. The pserson who generated this was a woman called Sara Mills. She made a news article on "The rise of UGC".

List some of the formats for participation that are now offered by news organisations.

Blogs with comments
Message boards etc.

What is one of the main differences between professionally shot footage and that taken first-hand (UGC)?
There are many differences between proffesionally shot footage and taken first-hand footage. The main difference is that nowadays, UGC is much more hard-hitting. Also it is much more emotive.

What is a gatekeeper?
A gatekeeper has an important role when it comes to news. A gatekeeper decides whether texts will or will not be published on news and they decide what will be broadcasted amongst the audience(s).

How has the role of a gatekeeper changed?A gatekeepers roll has changed a lot over the years. Before gatekeepers only had access to certain things in news, they were low-paid and there role wasnt as important, now they have a really important role in that they decide what news is published and what isnt.

What is one of the primary concerns held by journalists over the rise of UGC?
The main concern held by journalists is that the rise of UGC has grown hugely. Journalist are hardly no longer needed because UGC is everywhere now and everyone is producing there own news. They are gathering there own information and are oing there own thing.
