Media Work - Ms Wigley

How do audiences access texts across the three platforms?
all of these 3 texts fifa 11, call of duty and pr-evolution 2011 all attract/interact with the same type of audience. the reason i think this is because, fifa 11 and pro 11 are both football games, and call of duty are action games. this means that they are most likely to attract teenage boys and not girls.

audiences are able to play a role in in the media texts as in, broadcasting they are able to watch the trailers and find out more about the game itself and rate the games out of 10. e-media they are able to look at the website and find out more about the games, and in print they re able too look at magaines and make quotes about what they think of the game itself.

there are not differences in the audience gratifications in the different platforms as all three platforms target the same audience because they are similar games.

What institutional issues are raised by the topic areas?
institutions are improving technogoly year by year. the games are getting more exciting and gripping. they are adding better graphics and more features into the games in order to attract a wuider ranged audience because in that way they will make more money and become more succesfull across al three of their platforms.

institutions are attempting to reah their audiences by making the games more exciting and succesfull. they attempt to do this by adding more and better features into the game such as; graphics, costumes, presentation in the game etc.

Mr Bush - Personal Evaluation

Attainment -
I would give myself a level 4 out of 5 for attainment. The reason i would give myself a 3 out of 5 is because i dont think i done aswell as i could have done that i would have wanted to do. although i tried, i think i could of tried harder and achieved better grades in my essays.

Effort -
I would give myself a level 2 out of 5 for effort. the reason i would give myself a 2 out iof 5 is because i think personally i always concertrated in the lesson and really listened tio what you were saying in the class,, as it helped me improve upon my media terminology.

Puncluality -
I would give myseld again a 2 out of 5. the reason i would give myself a 2 out of 5 is because i believe i have been in most or even every single lesson this term, so i dont believe i have missed out on any work in class and for homework.

Submission And Quality Of Homework -
I would give myself a 3 out of 5 for homework. i think that for the whole of this term i have completed most of the homework tasks and havent really missed any deadlines. However i think that i could have could completed my work in more detail and used media terminology more often to get better marks/grades.

Ability To Work Independantly -
I would give myself again a 3 out of 5 for homework. I think that that this is a fair number out of 5 to give myself because i think throughout the duration of class i have worked independantly and completed work tasks in class. although i think that i get distracted easily and that is something i have to improve upon in future.

Quality Of Writing -
For the quality of my writing i would give myself a 3/4 out of 5. i the reason i would give this is because although i write a good amount of writing, i think that the actual quality of my work can be improved upon in many waqys such as; using more media terms etc. this is something i must improve upon in fuiture in order to achieve a better grade.

Organisation Of Blog -
I would give myself a 3 out of 5 for the way i organised my blog. i think 3 is fair for this because my blog is not perfectly set out and could be improved in both the way it is set and the quantity of work i have produced. However i think that i have tried hard to produce work on my blog and havent just rushed to get my work done and out of the way.

Oral Contributions In Class -
I would give myself again a 3 out of 5 for my oral contribution throughout class times. i think 3 is fair out of . the reason i think this is because i do not always contribute to what i am sure about, however, to the things i do know about i contribute and engage in the lesson. i think to improve in future i should contribute to the things im not sure about as it might help me understand it more.

NEW MOON!

Media Language
the genre of the film "new moon" is a dramatic love story, so it is a hybrid genre mixed with drama/romance. the two people in love in this story are a human girl and a vampire boy. you can tell by just that, that this movie is going to contain violence throughout the whole movie mixed with love because humans and vampires are enemies and do not get along. also throughout the whole film trailer, the sound in the trailer is at a very fast pace. this creates excitement and gripps the audience to want to watch more of the trailer or maybe even the movie. also because the sound is fast, it is also very dramatic sound which adds even more tension to the trailer. cross-cutting is used very oftenly in this trailer, maybe even mosrt of the time. this adds lots of excitement because it is going from one scene to the other at a very fast pace, and the music is helping this do so.

Representation Of Genre
In this film it contains; 3 main protagonists, Bella and Edward and the vulturi. bella and edward are madly in love. throughout the whole trailer, the men are seen as the more dominant characters then the women. you can tell this by all the fighting going on is just men, thee are no women fighting. also you can tell by the cameera shots/camera angles that the women are more inferior to men because when the camera angles are showing them, they are looking down at them as if they dont mater or they're not important. the men in this movie are shown as being dominant in many different ways. they are shown as being dominant by the way that they show of there bodies which connotes that they are some type of sex models and that this will grip the womens attention. another example of showing that men are more dominant then women is the way that when Edwartd says to Bella they cannot see each other anymore and dissapeares, and she gets so lonely and misses him so much that she starts taking risks and putting her life at danger by doing dangerous stuuf just tooget a climpse of him, this was called the "adrenaline junkie". this cannotes a message that women are very desperate.

Audience
i think that this film "new moon" is targetted at teenagers, however i think that this film trailer is targetted mostly at teenage girls. the reason i think this is because teenage boys are more interested in action films which contain, lots of drama at fighting mixed with violence and blood and weaponary instead of watching love films because it will not excite them enough to watch it and they will just get bored. however, on the other hand, women or teenage girls do not like watching violence and all that kind of stuuf because they dont find it exciting, and they would much rather watch a movie full of happinesss and love which will excite them and make them feel happy.

Institutions And Hollywood Values
on one hand i think that this film is a low budget hollywood movie. the reason i think this is because all the characters in this movie were un-known characters before this movie, so this meant that it would not have cost them that much to hire them and get them to act in their movie despite the fact that they are now very popular amongst the public. however, on the other hand it could be seen as a high budget hollywood movie because of all the effects shown in the trailer.

Essay - Mr Bush

The film clip I chose to analyse was from a movie called "coach carter". The reason I chose this movie is because, it is about a group of poor and un-wealthy teenagers brought up in a bad neighbourhood. When this film clip first starts of, it shows a close up of a mans head from a low angle looking up at his head. from this we could tell that maybe he is a dominant character in the movie. When he goes into the basketball court straight after the close up, it shows a long shot of the basketball team, however the camera is at a high angle looking down at the team, this shows that the man is much more dominant than them. as the film clip goes on the teenagers start saying how he is right and they should respect him more and when the boy gets up out of his seat to say something to the man, the camera angle has a close-up of his face but the angle was a mid-shot which connotes that he is on the same level as the man. After the speech, there is a close-up shot of some of the other boys in basketball squad and the camera is looking up at them symbolising that they can be more dominant than they are. The last shot is a long shot of the camera looking down at all of them. This could connote that because most of them are not white, they are not as dominant as white people. however this could also connote that they are all as equal as each other. Throughout the whole of this film clip, straight cutting is used.

Throughout this whole film clip, lighting stays the same. it is shows the sun reflecting from the window. this adds an effect the the scene because it could connote that these boys are becoming more dominant, the reason I think this is because this movie is about a group of boys brought up in a bad neighbourhood and have been set the wrong example, and finding them doing work in a basketball court could mean that these kids are changing. however, throughout the whole film clip there is a consistency of "dark" lighting, this could connote their lifestyle because they are a bunch of bad boys brought up wrong and by showing dark lighting throughout the film clip could help the audience understand the movie and more about the characters.

Sound in this film clip is used very effectivally. throughout the whole clip, very emotional music is being played. this relates to the film clip because in the scene, the boys are talking about how they are going to listen more to their coach rather then ignore him and do what they want to do. it is a very emotional scene. This is called parallel sound. Parallel sound is when a piece of sound is being played that is related to the theme going on and this is what is happening in this scene. I think that the sound is very important to this film clip because it helps us relate to the characters and there background as they have been through a lot of emotional things in the past and by playing the music throughout the whole scene helps us both understand the characters more and feel their emotions and what they are going through.

The setting in this film clip is very effective. the reason I think this is because everything was in place and it helped  me understand the scene much more. The costume in this film clip also had a big impact on the scene because they were wearing "chavy" and "poor" clothes. This connoted the characters that they are from a poor neighbourhood and it shows how they have been brought up. from the facial expressions of the characters you can tell that they had been through a lot of emotional things in the past. this has a very big effect on the movie because it helps us understand the scene and the characters. We can tell a lot about the characters from their body language. They are sitting on a chair in an un-formal way because they are "slouching" on the chair with their hoods up as if they don't care about life or they just don't take it seriously.

Media - Essay

Media Language-
When i first watched this movie trailer, I thought it was a "thriller". the reason I thought this is because whilst the trailer is going on, an extract comes up and says something about a thriller. I also thought this was a thriller because it makes it clear because of everything that is going on in the trailer. for example, throughout the whole trailer, there is a combination of "dark lighting" this can connote that this movie is very sad and emotional, possibly scary.

Also, in the trailer, there is a close up of an old man taking the little girl by her arm into his room. this can creates a very big impact on the genre because as he is taking her, her facial expressions are so sad and she looks vulnerable, scared and innocent. this makes us feel her pain and can get us very emotional and sad, however it can get us very angry at what the man is about to do to the poor innocent girl. all these things such as; emotional, vulnerable, disgusting, scary occur in a "thriller" movie.

The sound going on the first part of the trailer is very sad. the creates a massive effect on the trailer because it gets us more into the trailer as we see what is going on in the first part of the trailer is very sad and emotional, and the music just gets us more in to the trailer in that it makes us feel the emotions.

However, people could argue that this film is also a "drama". a film with 2 genres inside it, is called a "hybrid" genre. people could argue that this is a hybrid genre because, in the second part of the movie, the little girl and the person she is working with, are on the run from the men and throughout the whole second part of the trailer there is lots of drama going on such as; running, shouting, threatening, crying, etc.

The sound going on in the second part of the movie trailer also connotes that this is also a drama film. We can tell this because throughout the whole second part of the trailer, there is parrellel sound going on which means a sound that relates to the actual theme that is going on.

Media Representation-
Throughout the whole of this move trailer, men are typically shown as more dominant characer then women. we can tell this is many ways as we watch the movie trailer. for example, at the start of the movie trailer, we see the man in the cafe talking to the little girl asking her to do a favour for him whilst showing her money. this can connote that the man is wealthy and that women are desperate and will do anything for money.

Also in this movie trailer, there is a closeup shot of  the old man taking the little girl by her arm as if he was heading towards his bedroom. in this close up shot, the man is at a higher level then the little girl. this connotes that he is much kore dominant then her and has full conrol over her. In the second part of the movie trailer, the women are on the run from the men. this makes the men look more dominant, because it shows that the women are scared of them and that the men are scary.

In the last bit of the trailer, it shows a long shot of a man holding a gun, shouting at the little girl and her partner to get into the car. he is at a much higher level then them as he looks very dominant and strong whilst they look vulnerable and scared. as this part of the movie trailer is showing, it shows clearly that the man is the more dominant character because of his levels and posture.

Media Audience-
After watching this movie trailer, i would think that is aimed at an age group between 16-40. the reason i think that this would be a suitable audience to watch thuis film is because, there is a lot of action going on throughout the movie such as; violence, horror, blood, guns, etc. if this movie got shown to a younger audience e.g. kids, firstly they would not understand anything going on throughout the movie such as; the storyline, what is going on, etc. also it would be inapropriate for this to be shown to little kids because there to young to be watching what is going on in a movie like this because it is full of disturbing actions.

Also, i think that showing this movie to an audience of 40 would not be suitable. the reason i think this is because, this movie is full of du=isturbing things and has a lot of voielence in it throughout the whole film. showing it to elderly people, they might get complaints from the elderly people because they dont want to be watching a movie that has a little girl making herself to be a prostitue and getting taken advatage of by people their age.

I think the perfect audience is 16-40 because young adults are intersted in these kinds of movies because they are packed out with drama throughout the whole film, and if someone is going to pay to watch a film they want it to be full of drama and action throughout the whole movie. this movie has everything you want in it. It has, violence, thriller, drama, and lots of disturbing scenes. there will be no complaints from anyone watching this film in this audience because it is what they would have wanted to see as it very effective as a movie, and it rare a movie like this will be released because of the disturbing scenary that goes on throughout the movie.

Media - Mr Bush

Two Extracts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApID1SbqcMQ
This film is called New york city time square. as soon as this extract starts, there is a long shot being played with a very busy town and some people are even running. when i saw this straight away i came across violence or guilt. the reason i thought this was because, new york is a rich country and with people people running around, its either they're in a hurry to get somewhere, or they have done something wrong. As the clip goes on, we then see men dressed up like soldiers, using binoculars to look for people, this was a close shot. i think that the close shot of the soldiers connotes that the are the most important out of all these people and that they are better then everyone else. this shot also made me think that violence was present in this clip because you have soldiers looking for someone, or maybe something, and they wouldnt be doing it unless it was a valid reason.

This Move was made in the 1990s. It is called Mysterious Skin. this was the film scene of the film and as soon as this film starts there is a long shot with a shadow coming towards the door. straight away this builds up suspense that this may be about voilence or maybe be a thriller/horror. As the scene goes on, it shows a close up of a man holding maybe his partner or his dad etc. the man being held is clearly ill by his skin which makes sense because the movie is called "myseterious skin". they do a close up shot of this to try and get us feeling emotional, like he is, and by doing this, they added abit of "emotional" music to try and get us in that mood.

Four Film Stills

This is a poster of Mary Poppins. As you can see in this poster, Mary Poppins is "higher" then all the buildings and houses. this conntoes that she was a very special woman and that she was someone to look up to as a woman. also back in the day, people didnt have enough money to afford rich things, and she is wearing very posh clothes in the poster, this signifies that she is a very intelligant and successfull lady.

This as you can see, is a poster of a vammpire. straight away we can see this, by looking at her facial expressions. they use a medium shot in this poster so that you can see what she is doing, but also what is going on around her. given that we see "darkness" and trees with no leaves, we can straight away understand that this lady is a vampire.

This film still is taken from a movie called "get smart". a medium shot is also used in this film still. i think they have done this because, as you can see the facial expressions on both characters are "eager", "worried" and "anxiuos". this gives us an idea that they are either on the run or trying to do something dodgy. an i think that the medium shot is perfect for this because it shows them in rich clothes which connotes there guilt.

This film still is a "long shot". the reason i think this is because not only can you see both characters full bodies, buy you can also see what the atmosphere is like around them. i think that the long shot is suitable for this because the atmosphere around them is dark and scary, and with a gun pointed at one of the characters faces, it all blends in well.

HollyWood Notes!

Hollwood - Sound Film In The 1920's

When sound film was intoduced into hollywood in the 1920's, a constant speed was required for the sound which was 24 frames per second. this was because it was the slowest speed which meant is was the cheapest which allowed for sufficient sound quality.

The Vitaphone system was first embraced by Warner Brothers.  In August 1926, Warner Brothers introduced the first Vitaphone film Don Juan.   Don Juan was the first mainstream film that replaced the traditional use of a live orchestra or organ for the soundtrack. However, in Don Juan there was no dialogue in the film.
